Engine and Transmission Options
The next-generation Ford Ranger has been redesigned from the ground up as an “all-rounder lifestyle vehicle” that can do not only work, but also family activities and adventures, Ford said. Launched in Thailand in March this year, the All-New Ford Ranger is offered in Malaysia in two different powertrain options. Both use a 2.0-liter EcoBlue inline-four diesel engine, paired with single or dual turbochargers.
The first, an engine variant with a single turbocharger available on the base model variant, has a power output of 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. While the twin-turbocharged version offers a higher output figure of 170 hp and 405 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, you can also choose between a 5-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, or a 10-speed automatic transmission.
There's a Raptor Variant too!
In addition to the usual Ford Ranger variant, the Ford Ranger Raptor is also available. Got a big power injection in this new generation thanks to the switch from diesel to gasoline power. Under the hood of the Thai-spec Ford Ranger Raptor is a new 3.0-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, which makes 397 hp and 583 Nm of torque. Although the option of the existing bi-turbo diesel engine producing 213 hp with 500 Nm of torque will still be available in certain markets.
How about Indonesia? considering that Ford Indonesia is reported to have made a comeback, there is a big chance for the entry of this latest generation Ford Ranger. Moreover, the Ford Ranger is also one of the best-selling Fords. However, the price offered could be very high, especially the Raptor variant, which costs almost Rp. 1 billion. Currently, the cheapest price (variant 2.2 XL DC 4X4 M/T) is already IDR 488 million, which if you add a little more, you get the highest variant from the Mitsubishi Triton (Rp 496 million).
