The DEBM Diet (The Delicious, Happy and Fun Diet) was first popularized by Robert Hendrik Liembono through his diet guide in 2018. Similar to the Atkins diet and the ketogenic diet, the DEBM diet also reduces
Initially, the GM diet was designed specifically for General Motors employees in the United States in the 1980s. However, the diet program which is said to have been through testing at the Johns Hopkins Research Center is then widely circulated among the general public.
Guide to Running the GM Diet Program
The GM diet method is quite strict because it requires people who live it to follow a predetermined menu every day for a week. The diet on the GM diet is generally dominated by vegetables and fruits.
The following are the rules for eating in the GM diet program:
First day
GM dieters are only allowed to eat fruit. Portions are not limited or as much as desired. All fruit is allowed, except bananas. However, the fruits that are often recommended on the first day of the GM diet are melons, strawberries, apples, and oranges.
The second day
GM dieters are only allowed to eat vegetables, either cooked or raw vegetables. The portion is not limited. For the breakfast menu on the second day of the diet, you are allowed to add potatoes or sweet potatoes, but only in small amounts.
The third day
GM dieters are only allowed to eat fruits and vegetables, except bananas and potatoes. Portions are also not limited or as desired.
The fourth day
GM dieters are only allowed to eat bananas and milk. Portions are also limited, namely 6 large bananas or 8 small bananas, and 3 glasses of skim milk.
Fifth day
The menu for the GM diet on the fifth day is to consume about 550–560 grams of meat, either beef, chicken, or fish. Apart from meat, GM dieters are only allowed to eat 6 tomatoes. For vegetarians, meat can be replaced with brown rice or cottage cheese.
Sixth day
The GM diet menu on the sixth day is the same as the menu on the fifth day. It's just that 6 tomatoes are replaced with any type of vegetables, except potatoes. The portion of vegetables is not limited or as desired.
Seventh day
The diet determined on the seventh day is brown or brown rice, fruits, fruit juices, and vegetables. The portion of each menu is still not limited.
GM Diet Dos and Don'ts
During the GM diet program, you are encouraged to follow the following tips:
- Drink 8-12 glasses of water a day to meet the body's fluid needs and prevent dehydration.
- Avoid consumption of nuts, because these foods are high in calories and can increase weight.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages or high-calorie drinks, such as soft drinks.
- Limit activity and avoid exercise for the first 3 days of the GM diet program.
Coffee or green tea can still be consumed, but without added sweeteners or sugar. In addition, if you are bored with regular milk, you can replace it with soy milk.
To maintain weight after running the GM diet program, it is recommended that you eat foods low in protein and low in carbohydrates.
Reviewing the Pros and Cons of the GM Diet
Basically, how the GM diet works is to lose weight by reducing the number of calories from the food and drinks consumed. In addition, the GM diet also increases the intake of fruits and vegetables so that it is considered good for detoxifying the body.
So, in addition to being able to lose weight quickly, this method is also believed to be able to launch digestive functions, remove toxins from the body, and increase the fat burning process in the body.
However, the GM diet program also has several disadvantages, namely:
- The absence of clinical research and accurate scientific facts to support the claims of the GM diet program.
- It is not possible to do this in the long term because it can cause the body to lack nutrients, such as protein, fat, vitamin B12, iron, and calcium.
- Weight loss that does not last long because what is lost from the body is water, not fat or calories.
- The body's metabolic processes become slower.
- Increased risk of various diseases, such as electrolyte disturbances, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, constipation, mood swings, irregular menstruation, and hair loss.
Many people are tempted to go on the GM diet to lose substantial amounts of weight in just 1 week. However, according to health experts, this diet is not recommended because there are more risks than benefits.
If you want to lose weight, do it gradually with a weight loss target of about 0.5–1 kg per week. A diet that is done consistently over a long period of time is proven to be more effective and healthy for losing weight and keeping it ideal.
Adopting a healthy diet combined with regular exercise is the best way to get to your ideal body weight and maintain it for a long time.
If you have difficulty determining the right diet and diet program, or if you still have questions about the GM diet, you can consult a nutritionist.
