The all-electric, three-row EV9 concept was unveiled at the 2021 Los Angeles auto show, and now Kia has announced that it will begin production next year.
- Kia has confirmed that the EV9 SUV will arrive in Europe in 2023 in production form.
- While Kia has not yet confirmed whether the EV9 will be offered in the United States, we are confident that it will.
- The all-electric, three-row EV9 concept was unveiled last November at the Los Angeles auto show.
According to a press release on Kia's UK media site, Europe will be the first to receive a production version of the Kia EV9 SUV in 2023. Although the company made no mention of a US version, we believe the EV9 will eventually make its way here as well.
For those who missed its unveiling at the Los Angeles auto show last November, the EV9 concept is a three-row all-electric SUV with a size and shape similar to the Kia Telluride. We don't expect anyone to confuse the two, however, due to the EV9's blocky bodywork and futuristic styling elements.
Apart from confirming production for the European market, Kia has provided no additional information about the EV9. We already knew it would be built on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 7, which was revealed last year. Both Kia and Hyundai's large electric SUVs will be built on a stretched version of the e-GMP platform that currently underpins the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Kia claims that the EV9 will have a range of 300 miles on a single charge and a maximum charging rate of 350 kilowatts. At the moment, we can only speculate, but we believe the United States version will arrive for the 2024 model year and will start around $50,000.
